Joseph K. Young, O.D.

Dr. Young is Advanced Board Certified in Optometry, and in the treatment and management of Ocular Disease. He is certified in the use of Therapeutic and Diagnostic Medication, and is licensed to prescribe. He is also hospital trained (VA hospital), and trained in both, adult and pediatric care. Dr. Young is the recipient of a multitude of awards as well as Academic & Externship Honors which include, among others, the Milroy Optical Scholastic Scholarship, BSK (BETA SIGMA KAPPA) Optometric Honors, Primary Care Externship Honors, Cornea & Contact Lens Externship Honors and winner of the International Opticianry Competition.

Dr. Young is committed to the ocular health of Newtown's children and senior citizens. To that end, he conducts teaching seminars to Newtown's School Nurses as well as Newtown's Senior Citizen groups. He also proudly represents the Lion's Club examining visitors at the Newtown and Danbury Health Fairs.

Dr. Young is expert in fitting all type of contact lenses including post-surgical fits and contact lenses necessary to treat irregular corneal surfaces.

Dr. Young is best known for his superb diagnostic skills and quality patient care. Dr. Young is quoted, "Truly listening to what the patient has to say along with in-depth testing is the key to solving the patient's eye care problem". Dr. Young is always on call for emergencies and consultations with other physicians.

Steve, Licensed Optician

Steve is our State Licensed Optician, graduating from Middlesex Community College with an Associate of Applied Science in Ophthalmic Dispensing. He is Nationally Board Certified with the American Board of Opticians. Steve is fully certified to fit and dispense contact lenses, having passed all examinations and being certified by the National Contact Lens Examiners.

So what does all of this mean? What do all of these certifications and titles mean to the patient? It means that Steve has worked hard to achieve a level of competency far above the norm. His chosen career is in providing excellence and service in supplying patients with visual alternatives to meet all needs, whether those needs are sports related, work related, hobby related, safety related, or that just right pair of sunwear.

Steve will also work with you to help understand and maximize any eyeware and contact lens insurance coverage you have for you and your family.
